                              Millimeters to Inches Calculator                             

The form below will convert Millimeters to Inches with the non integer portion shown as a fraction rather than a decimal.  To use the calculator, type the distance in Millimeters and the factor.  Use a factor of 16 if you want the answer expressed in 16th, use a factor of 8 for 8ths etc.  The larger the factor, the more precise the result. 

Here are the calculations:

1. Convert from mm to inches.
300 mm / 25.4 = 11.81 inches rounded to 11.8

2. Convert the decimal portion of the quotient to a fraction.
.8 = 8/10

3. Convert the fraction to the desired equivalent fraction.
Multiply both the numerator and denominator by a common factor. ie 32, 16, 8
etc
8 X 32 = 256
10 X 32 = 320
Combine products into the new fraction 256/320.
3. Reduce the fraction.
256/10 = 25.6  Round to 26
320 / 10 = 32
26/32 = 13/16

Now we have the answer.
300mm = 11 13/16
